DCDC PROJECT HUB
Rain Sensing Wiper / Umbrella Activator
1ST YEAR• Automation• MEDIUM
Problem statement
Drivers may sometimes delay switching on wipers during sudden rain, affecting visibility, and people may step out without realizing it is drizzling.
Abstract
The project uses a rain sensor plate to detect raindrops and control a small wiper motor or indicator. In a car model, the rain sensor signal starts the wiper motor. In a home/hostel application, an LED or buzzer near the exit can alert people to carry an umbrella.
Components required
- Rain sensor module
- Microcontroller or simple transistor driver
- DC motor with wiper linkage (model)
- LED indicator / buzzer
- Motor driver IC (L293D or similar)
- Power supply

Working
The rain sensor outputs a voltage based on water drops on its surface. When rain is detected beyond a threshold, the controller activates the motor driver which runs the wiper motor at set speed. In a simplified version, it may only light an LED or buzzer to signal rainfall.
Applications
- Model of automatic car wiper system
- Rain alert at building exits
- Water leakage detection on roofs
